BRITISH NOTIFICATION of the Italian Revised List of Contraband of War.- London, January 1, 1918.*

THE Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs has received from His Majesty's Ambassador at Rome the following translation of the new list of absolute and conditional contraband issued by the Italian Government on the 30th November, 1917:

List of articles and materials which shall be considered articles of absolute contraband :

Steel containing tungsten or molybdenum or titanium, or uranium.

Acetates; acetate of calcium.

Acetones and raw or prepared materials which may be used in their preparation.

Fatty acids.

Acetic acid.

Hydrochloric acid.

Formic acid.

Nitric acid.

Oxalic acid.

Sulphuric acid.

Fuming sulphuric acid (oleum).

Gun carriages and their component parts.
Albumen.

Alcohols, including flemma oil and wood spirit; their preparations and derivatives.

Aluminium, its alloys, alumina, and salts of alumina.
Amianthus.

Starch.

Ammonia (salts of).

Ammonia (solution and gas).

Acetic anhydride.

Sulphurous anhydride.

Aniline and its derivatives.

Animals, saddle, draught, or pack, suitable, or which may become suitable, for use in war.

Antimony, together with sulphides and oxides of antimony.

Submarine sound-signalling apparatus.

Aircraft of all kinds, including aeroplanes, airships, balloons and their component parts, together with accessories and articles suitable for use in connection with aircraft.

Carbon, alogenous compounds.

Carborundum in all forms.

Paper representing money, title-deeds, negotiable credit bills, cheques, drafts, coupons, letters of credit and of advice. notices of credit and debit, or other documents which in themselves completed or used by the receiver may authorise, confirm or render effective the transfer of money, credit or shares.

Maps and plans of any place within the territory of any belligerent, or within the area of military operations, on a scale of 5000 or any larger scale, and reproductions on any scale by photograph or otherwise, of such maps or plans.

Photographical maps.

Packing cases of all kinds and their component parts.
Tar, and essence of wood tar.

Tar of all kinds.

Phenol (carbolic acid), with its mixtures and derivatives.
Electrolytic iron.

Pig-iron, hæmatite, and iron ores.

Iron (alloys of) of all kinds, including iron silicium.
Iron pyrites.

Vegetable fibres and yarns made therefrom.

Steel and iron wire.

Barbed wire and instruments for fixing and cutting it.

Military harness of all kinds.

Phosgene (oxichloride of carbon).

Field forges and their component parts.

Warships, including boats and their component parts, of such a nature that they could only be used on a vessel of war. Animal black.

Nickel, its alloys, salts and compounds; nickel ores.
Nitrates of all kinds.

Calcium nitrate.

Mineral oils, including benzine and motor spirit.
Castor oil.

Gold.

Osmium, its alloys and compounds.

Bones of all kinds, whole or crushed, bone ash.
