WHEREAS by 'The Aliens Restriction (Consolidation) Order, 1916 "t (hereinafter referred to as the "Principal Order ''), His Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by 'The Aliens Restriction Act, 1914," has been pleased to impose restrictions on aliens, and to make various regulations for carrying these restrictions into effect;

And whereas the Principal Order has been extended and amended by subsequent Orders in Council, and it is expedient further to amend the provisions of the Principal Order in manner hereinafter appearing:

Now, therefore, His Majesty is pleased, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

In sub-section (1) of Article 25в of the Principal Order, for the words from "by race a Greek down to "a Christian, inclusive, there shall be substituted the words :“(a) by race a Greek, Armenian, or Syrian, or a member of any other community well known as opposed to the Turkish régime, and to be a Christian; or

(b) by race a Jew or an Arab, and to be a native of Bagdad or any other place in Mesopotamia.

ORDER IN COUNCIL applying the Provisions of "The Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881," to the States of Sarawak and Trengganu.-London, June 13, 1917.*

WHEREAS by "The Straits Settlements and Protected States Fugitive Offenders Order in Council, 1916" (hereinafter called the "Principal Order "), it was ordered that subject to the provisions of that Order "The Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881," should apply as if the States named in the Schedule to that Order were British Possessions;

And whereas the States of Sarawak and Trengganu are places over which His Majesty extends his protection, and it seems expedient to His Majesty, and conducive to the better administration of justice therein, and the Rulers of the said States have requested that Part II of "The Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881," should apply to the Colony of the Straits Settlements, the States named in the Schedule to the Principal Order, and the said States of Sarawak and Trengganu, and that, subject to the provisions of the Principal Order and this Order, the said Act shall apply to the said States as if they were British Possessions:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue of the powers in this behalf by "The Fugitive Offenders Acts, 1881 and 1915," and otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as "The Straits Settlements and Protected States Fugitive Offenders Order in Council, 1917," and shall be read and construed as one with the Principal Order, and shall come into force on such day as

may be fixed by notification by His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies published in the "London Gazette, "which date is in this Order referred to as the commencement of this Order.*

2. From and after the commencement of this Order the Principal Order shall be read and construed as if the States of Sarawak and Trengganu were named in the Schedule to the said Order.

3. Article 3 (i) of the Principal Order is hereby amended by the addition thereto of the following paragraphs:

(f.) As regards Sarawak, of Officer Administering the Government of Sarawak;

(g.) As regards Trengganu, of British Agent.

And the Right Honourable Walter Hume Long, one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, is to give the necessary directions herein accordingly.

BRITISH ORDER continuing the Application of Financial Restrictions after the Raising of the Blockade of the Coasts of Greece.-London, June 19, 1917. †

WHEREAS by Regulation 41c of the Defence of the Realm Regulations it is provided as follows:

(1.) Regulation 41в shall apply to any country which is for the time being under blockade on the part of the Allies in the same manner as it applies to an enemy country, and to any persons who would be enemies if the country so under blockade were an enemy country in the same manner as it applies to enemies, and if the Treasury by Order so direct, shall continue to apply after the blockade is raised, until the Order is revoked, to such extent and subject to such provisions as may be specified in the Order;

And whereas the coasts of Greece, including the islands of Euboea and St. Maura from a point situated in latitude 39° 20′ north longitude 20° 20′ east of Greenwich to a point situated in latitude 39° 50' north longitude, 22° 50′ east of Greenwich, and the other islands under the control or in the occupation of the authorities at Athens were recently under blockade on the part of the Allies;

And whereas that blockade has been raised, and it is expedient that the said regulation 41в shall continue to apply to Greece to the extent hereinafter specified:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of their powers under the said Regulation 41c and of all other powers enabling in that behalf, the Treasury hereby order as follows:

Until this Order is revoked Regulation 41 shall continue to apply and shall be deemed as from the date of the raising of the said blockade to have continued to apply to Greece to such an extent as is required to prevent the withdrawal, except under the authority of the Minister of Blockade, of any Greek funds or securities in the United Kingdom which the Minister directs are not to be withdrawn without that authority.

This Order may be cited as "The Greece (Financial. Restrictions) Order, 1917."

Given under our hands this 19th day of June, 1917.

Additions and Amendments, the Lists of Articles to be treated as Contraband of War.-London, July 2, 1917.*

GEORGE R.I.

WHEREAS on the 14th day of October, 1915, we did issue our Royal Proclamation specifying the articles which it was our intention to treat as contraband during the continuance of hostilities or until we did give further public notice;

And whereas on the 27th day of January, and on the 12th day of April, and on the 27th day of June, and on the 3rd day of October, and on the 23rd day of November, and on the 29th day of December, 1916, we did, by our Royal Proclamations of those dates, ‡ make certain additions to the lists of articles to be treated as contraband of war;

And whereas it is expedient to make certain additions to and amendments in the said lists, and to consolidate and re-issue the same in alphabetical order:

Now, therefore, we do hereby declare, by and with the advice of our Privy Council, that the lists of contraband contained in the Schedules to our Royal Proclamation of the 14th day of October, 1915, as subsequently amended by our Proclamations of the 27th day of January, and of the 12th day of April, and of the 27th day of June, and of the 3rd day of October, and of the 23rd day of November, and of the 29th day of December, 1916, aforementioned, are hereby withdrawn, and that, in lieu therecf, during the continuance of the war or until we do give further public notice, the articles enumerated in Schedule I hereto will be treated as absolute contraband, and the articles enumerated in Schedule II hereto will be treated as conditional contraband.

Acetic acid and acetates.

Acetic anhydride.

Acetic ether.

Acetones, and raw or finished materials usable for their preparation. Aircraft of all kinds, including aeroplanes, airships, balloons, and their component parts, together with accessories and articles Isuitable for use in connection with aircraft.

Albumen.

Alcohols, including fusel oil and wood spirit, and their derivatives and preparations.

Aluminium and its alloys, alumina and salts of alumina.

Ammonia.

Ammonia liquor.

Ammonium salts.

Aniline and its derivatives.

Animals, saddle, draught, and pack, suitable, or which may become suitable, for use in war.

Antimony and the sulphides and oxides of antimony.

Apparatus which can be used for the storage or projecting of compressed or liquefied gases, flame, acids, or other destructive agents capable of use in warlike operations, and their component parts.

Armour plates.

Arms of all kinds, including arms for sporting purposes, and their component parts.

Arsenic and its compounds.

Arsenical ore.

Asbestos.
