NOTICE is given that the Royal Government has taken measures, through the Royal Embassy at Paris, for the denunciation of the Franco-Italian Commercial Agreement of the 21st November, 1898, and through the Royal Legation at Athens for the denunciation of the Greco-Italian Commercial Protocol of the 30th December, 1899, so that both of these Acts will cease to have effect at the end of the year 1917.

ITALIAN DECREE giving effect to the Anglo-Italian Military Service Convention of December 11, 1917.*Rome, December 20, 1917.t

THOMAS OF SAVOY, Duke of Genoa, Lieutenant-General of His Majesty Victor Emmanuel III, by the grace of God and will of the nation, King of Italy:

In virtue of the authority delegated to us and of the extraordinary power conferred on the Government of the King by the Law of the 22nd May, 1915, No. 671;

With the consent of the Council of Ministers;

On the proposal of the Secretary of State for For ign Affairs, in concert with the President of the Council, Minister of the Interior, and with the Ministers of Justice, of War, of Marine, and of Arms and Munitions.

We have decreed and decree:

ART. I. Full and complete effect is given to the Convention, annexed to the present Decree, concluded at London on the 11th December, 1917, between the Italian Government and the British Government for the fulfilment of their military obligations by Italian and British citizens resident respectively in Great Britain and in Italy.

II. The provisions of Article I of our Decree of the 10th December, 1917, No. 1952, apply to deserters in Great Britain, if they have presented themselves to the Italian Consular authorities before the 9th February, 1918, and have complied with the necessary requirements for regularising their position in regard to their military obligations, or if they have complied with the regulations which will be given by the competent British authorities for the rendering of mili tary service in Great Britain in accordance with the annexed Convention.

The same provisions apply to those who are already serv ing in the British army and to those who, being situated in the circumstances contemplated in the first paragraph of Article V or in Article VI of the Convention, undertake voluntary service in that army.

III. The provisions of Article II of our above-mentioned Decree apply to deserters, who, being in Great Britain, have not complied with the provisions of the preceding Article.

The proceedings will take place in Italy, even if there may have been proceedings abroad before a military tribunal. the jurisdiction of which is established in the military district or the maritime department of the accused.

The confiscation will only apply to goods which the condemned has in Italy.

IV. Recusants who, being in Great Britain, may regularise their position in the manner and terms indicated in Article II of this Decree, will not be liable to prosecution and the penalty provided for the offence committed.

V. The Minister of War and the Minister of Marine have authority to issue the necessary regulations for the enrolment and rendering of military service in the Italian army or navy, in accordance with Articles II and IV of the attached Convention, of British citizens in Italy, who have not returned to their country to fulfil their military obligations before the 9th February, 1918.

VI. This Decree will come into force on the day of its publication in the "Official Gazette.

We order that the Decree, with the seal of the State affixed thereto, shall be inserted in the official collection of the Laws and Decrees of the Kingdom of Italy, and we command all concerned to observe it and cause it to be observed.

ITALIAN DECREE authorising the Execution of Agreements for the Prolongation of rarious Commercial Treaties, &c., with Foreign Countries until December 31, 1918.-Rome, December 30, 1917.*

In view of Article 5 of the Constitution of the Kingdom; In consultation with the Council of Ministers;

On the proposal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in concert with the Ministers of Colonies, Justice, Finance, Treasury, Maritime and Railway Transport, Agriculture and Industry, Commerce and Labour;

We have decreed and decree:

ART. 1. Execution is authorised in Italy of the Agreements concluded, or to be concluded, through an exchange of notes for the extension to the 31st December, 1918:

Of the Commercial Agreement of July 5, 1900,* with Brazil;

Of the Commercial Agreement of November 21, 1898, + with France;

Of the Treaty of Commerce and Navigation of November 25, 1912, with Japan;

Of the Commercial Protocol of December 30, 1899, with Greece;

Of the Treaty of Commerce, Customs and Navigation of November 22 (December 5), 1906,|| with Roumania;

Of the Treaty of Commerce and Navigation of January 1 (14), 1907,¶ with Serbia.

Of the Convention of Commerce and Navigation of March 30, 1914, ** with Spain;

Of the Commercial Treaty of July 13, 1904, with Switzerland.

2. The present Decree shall enter into force from the day of its publication in the "Official Gazette."

We order that the present Decree, sealed with the seal of State, be inserted in the official collection of Laws and Decrees of the Kingdom of Italy, and we enjoin on all whom it may concern to observe the same and to cause it to be observed.

ITALIAN DECREE imposing Penalties on British Subjects resident in Italy for failure to enrol in execution of the Anglo-Italian Military Service Convention, December 11, 1917.*-Rome, March 7, 1918.†

In virtue of the authority delegated to us and of the extraordinary power conferred on the Government of the King by the Law of the 22nd May, 1915, No. 671;

With the consent of the Council of Ministers;

On the proposal of the Secretary of State for War, in concert with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, of Justice, and of Marine:

We have decreed and decree :

ART. 1. English subjects residing in Italy, who, having been summoned to present themselves for personal examination and enlistment at the stations of command of military circuits, in application of the Convention of the 11th December, 1917, between Italy and England for the military service of citizens belonging to the two countries rendered executive by the Decree of the 20th December, 1917,‡ No. 2037, fail to obey the summons, shall be liable to the same penalties established for deserters by the sole text of the laws on recruiting approved by the Royal Decree of the 24th December, 1911, No. 1497.

We order that the present Decree, with the seal of State affixed thereto, shall be inserted in the official collection of the laws and decrees of the Kingdom of Italy, and we command all concerned to observe it and cause it to be observed.
