Excerpt from Psychology as Applied to Education

This book does not attempt to cover the whole field of modern psychology. Its scope is limited to those aspects of the vast subject which form the basis for rational edu cation. It aims not only to present these principles in compact form, but also to show their practical application to the problems of the schoolroom.

This work has grown up in the classroom. There is scarcely a sentence in the book that has not been used repeatedly in the author's classes in psychology. The author has found it a good plan in his own teaching of the subject to require every pupil to bring to class a written summary of the previous lesson. At the beginning of each recitation there is a brief review and a few of the pupils read their written summaries. These summaries, besides being brief general statements, should also con tain a liberal number of examples and illustrations.
